Andy was born in Wales and spent his childhood imminent Canterbury in Kent. He had his first pair of spectacles earlier his first pair of lengthy pants. He then worked for an autonomous optometry practice in the historic town of Lewis (once famous for having seven breweries, seven churches and 79 pubs!). He started his own business in Adelaide and operated a proudly autonomous optometry practice at Park side for 28 years. Andy has consulted at the Royal Society for the Blind’s Low Vision center since 1991. He has been conducting clinics in various outback towns and as piece of the Eye Care Team visiting isolated Aboriginal communities in South Australia and the Northern Territory since 1998. Andy has worked with Sight For All on their projects in Bhutan and Lao. As well as having an energetic commitment to the greatest standards of eye care, Andy cultivates strong opinions on his favorite topics motorbikes, public transport, cycling, desirable wine and immense ales, government waste, green washing and more. He isn’t afraid to share his thoughts with his many and varied clients which is why his private practice until March 2016 was known as Optometry With Attitude’. He is continuing to work in outback and Aboriginal communities and is available for occasional locum work, but he’s also planning to discard more time fishing cycling.

Andy and Kate are raising funds for the National Institute for the Visually Old which they visited on a whim’ in the distant area of eastern Bhutan in 2008 as part of a motorcycling holiday. Because of the generosity of clients and friends, organizing the exhibition was relatively easy, but organizing to get Andy to Bhutan and then to the Institute to assess the students took much longer. Andy hopes to visit the Institute regularly to assess the student’s vision and update their prescriptions for spectacles and magnifiers.
